    Also known as Agroecology this is about farming with nature. Blending age-old methods with cutting-edge technology means entire natural ecosytems and biodversity can thrive on farmland while the farm actually sequesters emisions rather than emits them. A win-win-win for the environment, farmer and your food.

  • Carbon & biodiversity - Trees

    It’s no secret the world should have much higher forest cover and much healthier wooded ecosystems. Planting new forests, bringing existing ones into active management and even simple techniques like establishing deer fencing have dramatic effects on nature and the sequestering of carbon.

  • Carbon & biodiversity - Peatland

    Often overlooked, peatland is a remarkable carbon sink when healthy. Not only a key habitat for many native species of insect, ground nesting birds and mammals, peat when treated properly locks atmospheric carbon up for the long-term at an astonishing rate.

  • Carbon - Enhanced weathering

    Taking a natural geological process that has been happening on Earth since the dawn of time and simply speeding it up. When rain falls through the atmosphere it combines with carbon dioxide, creating carbonic acid. This acid falls onto and interacts with rocks and soil, mineralising it which locks the carbon away for good. By spreading crushed silicate rock on farmland this naturally acidic rain has a lot more rocky surface area to interact with, dramatically speeding up the process, reducing timescales from millions of years to decades.

  • Carbon - Biochar

    At the more futuristic of nature-based solutions, Biochar is where you carbonise organic material at a high temperature in the presence of little or no oxygen. The process, called pyrolysis leaves a solid residue that is over 80% carbon. This can then be used as a natural fertiliser in agriculture, where much of the carbon is locked away.

    The world is in the midst of another great extinction event, this time caused by human induced climate change and the ever increasing pressure we put on natural habitats. In the UK alone biodiversity intactness is only at 50%, putting the UK in the bottom 10% of countries globally.
